Connecting and Developing the Boating Industry in South Africa

MIASA is an industry association linking companies across South Africa to represent and grow the boating and marine manufacturing industry. MIASA plays a vital role in liaising between industry, government and other stakeholders to promote the industry. It seeks to represent the entire industry value chain from manufacturers and retailers to consumer and business services both nationally and internationally.

With over 100 members including boat builders (leisure and commercial), retailers/brokers, business services, equipment and accessories, service and repair companies, and engine distributors, MIASA represents a broad constituency.

MIASA is a member of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations and it works closely with the South African Boat Builders Export Council (SABBEX).

One of MIASA’s flagship projects is the Builders Plate. This project was started to ensure boat buyers are able to identify the quality of the boat that they are purchasing and gain confidence in boats that are built to suitable specifications for South African conditions. The custodians of Small Craft regulations, SAMSA , determines the safety equipment and minimum buoyancy requirements but does not determine the strength, rigidity or construction method or layup of the fibre glass boats that are manufactured locally.

The MIASA Builders Plate is designed to enable the public to have some reassurance that the craft they are buying is built to accepted norms and standards suitable for use in the particular environment that the boat is designed for.
MIASA will be represented at this year’s Boat Show.
