Oct 5, 2022

boatica Cape Town will once again play host to The Great Optimist Race. The event is set to take place in the Host City Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront on Saturday 29th October from 12h30 (weather dependent).

Brainchild of the event and founder of the Little Optimist Trust, Greg Bertish said, “We’re delighted that The Great Optimist race is back on the water again in 2022. This years’ event is set to be fast paced and action packed with an exclusive group of handpicked sailors, survivors, celebrities and captains of industry taking to the water to raise funds for various deserving charities.”

Riaan Manser, writer, thrill seeker and modern day explorer will put his adventure skills to the test when he takes the helm of one of the little Optimists. “It’s a privilege to have someone as accomplished as Riaan volunteer his time for this amazing cause,” says Bertish.
Two time winner, Caleb Swanepoel will be back to defend his title, with Pippa Hudson (702) and Matt Bromley of Big Wave Surfers and Over the Edge fame being added to the fleet.
The event which aims to raise funds for sick and needy children in the Western Cape will consist of a three-lap course through the V & A Waterfront and will see competitors test their mettle, competing for the ultimate glory of being crowned victor at 2022’s Great Optimist Race.
